A 25-year-old man detained with ‘bag of mosquitoes’ in Peshawar hospital

A 25-year-old man was apprehended by staff at the Hayatabad Medical Complex in Peshawar on September 18 with a bag full of mosquitoes that were suspected to be carriers of a lethal disease, the director of the hospital, Dr. Shahzad Akbar, told Dawn on Wednesday.

The man, Saifullah, a resident of Peshpahaara, a rural town, had told a security guard at the hospital that he had only brought the mosquitoes to the hospital to confirm if they were dangerous.

More surprisingly, the man had said that someone in his town had promised that he would be paid for ‘providing’ virus-spreading mosquitoes, the hospital director revealed.
