On Sunday, near the Jordan-Syria border, a drone targeted the US base known as Tower 22, resulting in an attack on 3 American soldiers, as reported by the BBC.
Following the drone strike, President Joe Biden attributed the attack to “radical-Iran-backed militant groups” and asserted that the United States would respond to the incident. The one-way drone assault claimed the lives of three soldiers, with over 30 others sustaining injuries and currently undergoing necessary treatment.
This marks the first assault on US troops since the commencement of the conflict in Palestine, where the death toll has surpassed 26,000 Palestinians.
Officials revealed that the drone specifically targeted the troops’ sleeping quarters, contributing significantly to the high number of casualties. President Biden issued a warning, stating, “We will uphold their commitment to combat terrorism. Rest assured, we will hold those responsible accountable at a time and in a manner of our choosing.”
Simultaneously, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin emphasized, “We will take all essential actions to protect the United States, our troops, and our interests.”
This incident unfolds amidst the backdrop of ongoing conflicts and heightened regional tensions in the Middle East. The doomsday clock, symbolizing the world’s precarious state, has been set at 90 seconds to midnight.
In recent developments, the US conducted strikes on three facilities in Iraq last week and has been involved in engagements with the Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen, conducting numerous strikes, some unilaterally and others in collaboration with the UK and other allies.
