QUETTA: At least nine people, including three police personnel, were killed and 12 others injured in a bomb blast at Gulistan road near Jinnah check post in Quetta, the provincial capital of Balochistan, on Friday morning, ARY News reported.

Police and rescue sources confirmed that an explosive device went off near the IG Police Office in Quetta, leaving five dead and 14 others injured. The injured have been shifted to Quetta’s Civil Hospital for medical treatment.

Dr Fareed Ahmed, the hospital’s medical superintendent, said five dead bodies and 14 injured were brought to the health facility where four injured succumbed to their injuries, increasing the death toll to nine.

He feared that the death toll might increase as several others among the injured were in precarious condition. The police surgeon at the hospital said four of the victims of the blast have been identified, which included two police personnel and a traffic sergeant.

Following the blast more contingents arrived at the site and cordoned off  the area. A forensic team also reached the blast site and collected evidence.
