Digital media should show softer image of Pakistan to the world: State Minister

ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Information Marriyum Aurangzeb on Wednesday stressed on the need for effective use of digital media to promote and project Pakistan’s image as soft, moderate and democratic country at the global level.

The minister chairing a high-level meeting directed the departments of Ministry of Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage to work in a more integrated and cohesive manner to make the best use of social media, which is one of the greatest technological advancement of the recent age.

She said that restructuring and overhauling of social media wings at the ministry was imperative to align them with latest trends of digital media. She directed to chalk out a detailed plan and robust strategy to train officials and exposure to new social media trends.

She said that social media, from blogging to tweeting and Facebook, has indeed opened new, faster and cheaper avenues of communication by engaging greater number of people with more time at our disposal and costing less money.

The minister said social media had made it easier to locate the targeted audience such as interest-focused Facebook groups and Twitter.
