Punjab government has consented to issue arms licenses to its 27 officials, reported Roznama Dunya on Wednesday.
The decision was taken against the backdrop of growing threats of terrorism.
Soon after the decision, licenses were issued to nine officials. Sources privy to the development told our correspondent that Punjab govt had instructed law enforcement agencies to give protocol to officials performing duties in intelligence departments and on key positions. However, officials turned down the offer upon which provincial govt compelled them to carry licensed weapons with them.
Meanwhile, Home Department Punjab refused to tell names of officials over security concerns.
