Guinness Book Record: Doctor in Mumbai removed 5.5 kg tumour from woman’s kidney

Surgeons at Sion Hospital made it to the Guinness Book of World Records this week for the extraction of ‘heaviest kidney tumour’.

The 5.5 kg tumour was 50 times heavier than a healthy kidney, said the surgeons to the Hindustan Times. The surgery was performed on Bihar resident Manju Devi in November last year and a tumor, 31 cm wide and 19 cm long, was removed.

The patient visited the hospital after being turned away from many hospitals. Her daily activities had come to a halt because of the huge tumor in her stomach.
