The Lahore High Court (LHC) has on Wednesday accepted a petition for hearing seeking a treason trial case against President of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
The petition was filed by a citizen wherein it was mentioned that the deposed Prime Minister had staged a rally from Islamabad to Lahore, following disqualification by the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
During the rally, it was noticed that the former Prime Minister of Pakistan had criticized the judiciary of Pakistan and passed inappropriate remarks against the judges of Supreme Court, Express News reported.
The petitioner also added that Nawaz Sharif had also imposed allegation against the members of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) which was formed by the Supreme Court of Pakistan to probe into his offshore assets, thereby targeting state institutions — a move tantamount to committing treason.
The Lahore High Court (LHC) has accepted the petition and directed SHO of the Defence Police Station to submit a report on the matter by October 9.
