Lahore High Court ordered to file cases against Sugar mills owners

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday ordered the registration of cases against the sugar mills owners who would not make their mills operational by December 22.

The court also sought a report from concerned authorities in this regard.

Justice Muhammad Sajid Mehmood Sethi passed these orders while hearing a petition filed by Ameer Jamat-e-Islami Punjab Mian Maqsood Ahmad.

During the proceedings, the petitioner’s counsel submitted that under the law, sugar mill owners were bound to start crushing season from October but despite passing a period of
two months, the sugar mills were not being made operational.

He said that sugarcane growers were facing loss due to delay in the start of the crushing season.
