Lahore High Court rejected petition seeking to stop Jan 17 protests against govt

The Lahore High Court (LHC) has on Monday rejected the petition seeking to halt January 17 protests against the federal government.

Justice Shahid Kareem conducted the hearing on Advocate AK Dogar’s plea. The petitioner had opted the stance that the announcement of stage sit-ins against the incumbent government is illegal and against the Act-124 of the constitution.

He requested the court to give a verdict against holding the protest as it may spread anarchy across the country. While rejecting the request, the LHC recommended making a larger bench to hear the proceedings.
