A notice has been issued to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) by the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday on a petition seeking court’s directives for PML-N’s leader and former interior minister Chaudhry Nisar to take an oath as a member of the Punjab Assembly elected from PP-10.
A bench of the Lahore High Court directed the election commission to submit a report on the petition within 15 days.
A citizen filed the petition in the LHC, contending that neither the disgruntled PML-N leader Chaudhry Nisar was taking oath as MPA from PP-10 nor vacating the seat. He pleaded the high court to direct the MPA-elect to take oath.
Earlier, on Jan 8, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmaker Momina Waheed submitted a resolution in the Punjab Assembly seeking cancellation of assembly membership of Chaudhry Nisar.
