MARDAN: A police inquiry committee has been formed in light of Joint Investigation Team (JIT)’s report of Mashal Khan lynching incident, to scrutinize the role of police personnel during the incident at Abdul Wali Khan University (AWKU).
A three member committee – under supervision of Deputy Inspector General Mardan – will submit its report within a week.
Earlier, the JIT report suggested that the police did not spring into action to prevent the loss of life. The report urged that the responsible persons should be identified and taken to task.
The committee has been tasked to compile a report and dig out facts pertaining to negligence of police personnel in line with JIT suggestions.
Additionally, Iqbal Khan, the father of slain 23-year-old journalism student, made an appeal that the case of Mashal’s murder should be transferred from Mardan court to Peshawar High Court in a press conference at Peshawar Press Club.
He feared that the influential people behind his son’s murder may put his life in danger on frequent visits to Mardan for court proceedings. “I belong to Swabi, it will be difficult for me to make visits to Mardan as the prime suspects behind Mashal’s murder also hail from the same district”, Iqbal opined.
