NAB has initiated inquiries against three departments of the previous PTI-led government in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

NAB chairperson Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal presided over the board meeting of the corruption watchdog’s Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) chapter on Monday. KP’s local government department came under fire for the delay in completing the Peshawar Metro Bus project.

“Why was the project not completed in time?” asked the NAB chief. He said the cost of the project rose from Rs49 billion to Rs64 billion. However, the project was still never completed, he said. He ordered an inquiry into why the project got delayed. According to him, the investigation has to fix responsibility for increasing the project cost as well.

The corruption watchdog also approved initiating an inquiry against the local government department for embezzlement. NAB has received complaints that local government officials were involved in embezzlement of funds that the government allocated for schools’ biometric machines and water coolers.
