The Supreme Court of Pakistan has been informed by the Secretary Defence Lt Gen (R) Zamir-ul-Hassan that there were no dual nationality holders exist in the Pakistan Armed Forces.

As per the rules, no one could be allowed to join the Pakistan Army who holds a dual nationality, he added. Moreover, if any officer of the Pakistan Army would be getting married to any dual national, then he/she had to take a prior permission from the competent authority, said Mr. Zamir.

Chief Justice-headed a three-member bench heard the suo moto case about the dual national employees in the government sector.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar has also directed the Defence Secretary to submit the detail which he had shared with the Supreme Court in the written form.

The Ministry of Defence is yet to submit a reply to the apex court regarding the employment of the former COAS Raheel Sharif and former DG ISI Lt Gen (R) Ahmed Shuja Pasha abroad.

The Secretary of Defence notified the court the then-federal government had issued a no-objection certificate (NOC) to the both of the retired generals of the Pakistan Army before prior to leaving for employment in the other country.

On the other hand, an officer of the Interior Ministry had informed the court that 27 officers currently working in the interior minister are dual nationals.

The apex court had issued notices to all the 27 officers of the interior ministry and adjourned the hearing of the case till August 7.
