ISLAMABAD: Opposition parties in the National Assembly Friday demanded the constitution of a Special inquiry committee to probe the manhandling of Sheikh Rashid Ahmed by Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) workers in National Assembly’s main gate on the election day of Prime Minister of Pakistan.
Speaking in the National Assembly, they said the special committee should complete the investigations in a prescribed time limit.
Syed Naveed Qamar of Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPPP) strongly condemned the incident saying constitution protects members’ criticism. Members cannot be impeded from criticism.
Sheikh Rashid Ahmed of Awami Muslim League (AML) said he has already moved a privilege motion on the hooliganism by the workers of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz.
Scores of people had forced their entry into the House on that day without having any entry passes. Mercenaries were present in lobbies of the Parliament House and tried to physically assault him when he came out from National Assembly for going home.
He said he can’t be browbeaten. He demanded proper investigations. Sahibzada Tariqullah of Jamat-e-Islami (JI) said the intruders into the House had disgraced the House.
Shah Mehmood Qureshi of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lauded the attitude of Speaker Ayaz Sadiq for informing Sheikh Rashid Ahmed and asking him to use speaker’s lift for departing the house after leaving the session.
He said mercenaries intruded into the house, he said they can kill anyone or any suicide bomber can also come into the House in such security situation.
