Pakistan 13th Chinese Bridge Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign Secondary School Students

In July 2020, the 13th Chinese Bridge Chinese Proficiency Competition for International Secondary School Students in Pakistan was held online for the overseas preliminary round. Through participation in this competition students not only got a chance to exhibit their language skills but it actually enhanced their presentation skills and with an exposure of the Chinese culture. The competition assessed the knowledge of students across two areas; Chinese language proficiency and Knowledge of China.

The results for the Competition were announced in October with the Prize Distribution Ceremony being held at Roots Millennium School One World Campus Islamabad .The Prize Distribution ceremony was graced by Chen Xiang Director China Radio International Confucius Classroom Pakistan and Sabina Zakir Director Roots Millennium Schools.

Chen Xiang, Chinese Director of the CRI Confucius Classroom Pakistan introduced that the CRI Confucius Classroom has cooperated with the Roots Millennium Schools, the third largest education group and Pakistan has been providing compulsory Chinese non-credit courses in the group’s primary and secondary schools for ten years.

The overseas preliminary round of the 13th Chinese Bridge Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign Secondary School Students in Pakistan was hosted by the Cultural Office of the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan and coordinated by the China Radio International (CRI) Confucius Classroom Pakistan. After the early stage of selection, 11 secondary school students from Pakistan participated out of which 10 were from Roots Millennium Schools.

The whole competition consisted of two parts: Chinese speech and talent show. The contestants spoke about their own experience of learning Chinese with vivid and fascinating experiences as part of the Chinese expression.

The contestant Maryam Jaffar from Roots Millennium School One World said learning Chinese language has given her confidence and she wishes to travel to China one day to further explore the Chinese language and culture.

Chen Xiang Director China Radio International Confucius Classroom Pakistan said that China and Pakistan have a long relation of brotherhood and have made remarkable achievements together. He further added that the future of millennial students is great and looking at their interest in China and Chinese Language, they can contribute to promotion of Chinese Culture and Language in Pakistan. Pakistanis can better understand China and facilitate people-to – people exchanges between the two countries by learning Chinese.
