KARACHI: Coming forward in defence of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rahman has urged the premier to stand his ground over the opposition’s demand of resignation.

Addressing a press conference on Friday, the JUI-F chief asserted that the leaders of opposition parties are insisting on an unwarranted demand of resignation from an elected prime minister. “The ethical gurus are teaching moralities to one who is their prime minister constitutionally,” Rehman said while implying the opposition is making an unethical demand.

He insisted the premier should not resign on anyone’s demand.

“The Panamagate was not an issue but a cooked up conspiracy to sabotage ongoing countrywide development projects with corruption allegations,” he opined.

The JUI-F chief said a perception is being given by design that confrontation and chaos exist among the state institutions but the country could not afford any crisis.
