Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Mian Saqib Nisar on Tuesday said that the Parliament cannot make laws against the constitution and the constitution gives the judiciary the right to review legislation made by the parliament.

Giving his remarks during the Media Commission Case, he said that Parliament is supreme, but the constitution is above it. “Supreme Court has the right to review legislation violating basic rights.”

Responding to the questions of certain legislators asking how the top court can intervene in the lawmaking process, he said that constitution is above the parliament.
