Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has on Wednesday imposed a fine of Rs1 million on Local TV Channel Geo for airing remarks against the Armed Forces of Pakistan.
The officials of PEMRA had a briefed meeting on Tuesday at its headquarter in Islamabad to discuss the various issues on agenda against Pak Army.
During the meeting, the authority approved recommendation filed by the Complaint Karachi and Council of Complaint Lahore to impose a fine of Rs1 million on Geo News for airing such irresponsible remakes against the armed forces of Pakistan during the talk show.
“Aapas Ki Baat” a program on Geo News hosted by the anchor Muneed Farooq which revolves around the analyst Najam Sethi, gave remarks against the Army of Pakistan on January 9, 17, 24 and 25, 2017. The authorities of PEMRA has decided to hold a key meeting to discuss the matter in detail when PEMRA has received a huge number of complaints by masses against the program aired on Geo News.
The personal hearing committee has also recommended PEMRA to take action against the TV Channel “Starlite” for airing the vulgar content on June 13, 2017. PEMRA suspended landed rights permission to private channel in response.
