LAHORE (PAK TIMES): The recently elected Speaker of Punjab Assembly Pervaiz Elahi on Thursday promised to conduct the proceedings of the Punjab Assembly in a transparent manner.

In his maiden speech, Pervaiz Elahi thanked his voters, especially the Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Imran Khan, for their support and vowed to work for the betterment of Punjab as well as of Pakistan.

“I will do justice to each member of the provincial assembly regardless of his party affiliation. We have to legislate for the people, for their welfare and development,” newly elected Speaker added.

Pervaiz Elahi urged the opposition political parties to play a constructive role in the passage of legislation.

Out of the total 349 votes, Elahi secured 201 votes, while his rival, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s candidate Chaudhry Iqbal Gujjar obtained 147 votes. One vote was rejected during the counting.
