PIA has decided to suspend its flight operation for US

LAHORE: The Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has decided to suspend its flight operation for the United States primarily because of ‘low traffic’.

Advisor to Prime Minister on Aviation, Sardar Mehtab Ahmad Khan has also confirmed it, saying that the decision is being taken due to $.4 billion losses to the national flag carrier.

He said a restoration plan for PIA will be presented to the federal cabinet.

The airline has stopped booking for its twice-a-week flights for New York from November onwards. However, it will continue to operate its two weekly flights — Lahore-New York and Karachi-Lahore-New York — till Dec 31.

The PIA is considering closing its flight operation for the US till the financial health of the organization improves. The national flag carrier is already facing an acute financial crunch, therefore, it cannot operate on routes which are running in losses, an official said.
