ISLAMABAD: Claiming credit for safeguarding democracy in the country, Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Khursheed Shah on Thursday said that Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) will not play a friendly role for challenges the ruling party is confronting.
The opposition leader was addressing a press conference here when he said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif should immediately resign in wake of revelations made by the Panamagate probing team.
“The premier’s reputation was tainted just after emergence of Panamagate scandal. He should have tendered resignation when the investigation started against him as he lacked moral jurisdiction to continue his office [being investigated for money laundering]. Now the situation is different,” Shah asserted while implying that PM must resign.
Terming PM’s resignation discussion during the cabinet meeting today as a good indication, he opined the premier should resign without delaying a moment.
He lamented that the country’s economy has suffered a major setback contrary to the ruling party’s hefty claims of development projects and economic growth. “Despite making claims of overcoming the energy crisis, the masses are still facing power outages on the routine basis,” Shah added.
