Rain and hailstorm claim 10 lives in K-P

Devastating rain and hailstorms wreaked havoc in various districts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, claiming the lives of 10 individuals and injuring 12 others, according to a report by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) released on Sunday.

The PDMA report detailed the grim toll of the recent inclement weather, revealing that among the deceased were eight children and two women, while the injured comprised nine children, two women, and one man.

The report said that 27 houses bore the brunt of the severe weather, with collapsing walls and roofs causing extensive damage. Of these, three houses were entirely destroyed, while 24 suffered partial damage.

The devastation was widespread across several districts. In Shangla, four fatalities and three injuries were reported, with two houses partially damaged.

Tragically, in Bannu, three children lost their lives and one was injured, alongside damage to a house. Bajaur also faced casualties, with a woman and a child killed, two injured, and three houses partially damaged.

Further incidents were recorded in Peshawar, where three individuals sustained injuries and a house suffered partial damage. Nowshera witnessed three injuries and multiple houses partially damaged.

In Mansehra, a woman lost her life and three houses were partially damaged, while in Momand, Mardan, and Waziristan, numerous houses were affected.

The repercussions of the adverse weather extended beyond human casualties, with 11 cattle succumbing to the elements in Swat.

Responding to the crisis, the PDMA swiftly mobilised relief efforts, distributing aid to affected individuals across Peshawar, Nowshera, Bajaur, Shangla, Mansehra, Bannu, Mohmand, Mardan, and North Waziristan.

Relief materials were also dispatched to Nowshera, Bajaur, Mohmand, and other affected districts, underscoring ongoing efforts to support communities grappling with the aftermath of the natural disaster.
