LAHORE: In a fresh development in the wake of damning revelations of the Panama Joint Investigation Team (JIT) report about the Sharifs, a resolution calling for Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s resignation was submitted in the Punjab Assembly on Tuesday, ARY News reported.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MPA Shoaib Siddiqui submitted the resolution in the assembly secretariat calling on the PM to resign in the wake of the potentially incriminating revelations of the JIT about the Sharif’s businesses and properties in its report.

In his resolution, the PTI lawmaker said that the premier and his family had been found involved in corruption, wrongdoings, and deceit. The ruling family had been disrespecting public and voters for years, he added.

He said the JIT report has established that PM Nawaz was not Sadiq (truthful) and Ameen (trustworthy) and failed to fulfill the requirements of the Article 62 and 63 of the Constitution of the country. Thus, he said, the premier was not entitled to stay in office.

The Joint Investigation Team (JIT), formed to probe the money trail of ruling Sharif family’s offshore properties, submitted its fourth and final report to the Supreme Court on Monday and it recommended the apex court to file reference against the prime minister and his two sons under National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Ordinance.
