Submitted wealth tax returns by myself, Nawaz tells court during Al-Azizia reference hearing

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supreme leader Nawaz Sharif has started to record his statement in Al-Azizia reference under Section 342 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

During the hearing headed by Justice Muhammad Arshad Malik, ex-prime minister said that he didn’t hold any public officer from October 12, 1999, to May 2013 and that he submitted the wealth tax returns by himself.

Previously, the judge had remarked that accountability court would inform apex court about the progress in remaining two corruption references against the Sharif family.

As the hearing went underway, defence lawyer Khawaja Haris cross-examined investigation officer Muhammad Kamran who said that call-up notices had not been served to Hassan Nawaz and Hussain Nawaz (sons of Nawaz Sharif) on their foreign address.

“Through the report of the joint investigation team, I came to know that Hassan and Hussain Nawaz were non-residential citizens of Pakistan”, added Muhammad Kamran.
