ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday, decided to drop contempt proceedings against former senator and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Nehal Hashmi.

Hashmi was indicted and disqualified from holding public office recently, and was then served a second contempt notice for abusing judges after his release from jail. He was earlier sentenced to one month prison time as well.

The representatives of the bar council requested the top court to drop the charges, on which, the three-member bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar, asked Hashmi to submit an unconditional apology today itself.
