Water supply to Karachi hit by power breakdown

KARACHI: Power breakdown in Karachi played havoc with the city’s water supply, causing a shortfall of over 150 million gallons of water on Sunday.

All major pumping stations of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board, suffered power cut in early hours of Sunday when several areas of Karachi descended into darkness.

The electricity supply was partially restored; however, most of the pumping stations are still without power, according to officials.

MD Water and Sewerage Board said at least 150 million gallons of water supply to Karachi has been affected, adding that compete restoration of the system is likely till Monday.

Many citizens of Karachi had to eat their first Sehri of Ramazan in darkness after several areas of the provincial capital descended into darkness due to a major power breakdown.
